Three golfers tied for top spot with handicap busting performances in a charity event which raised £5,500 for hospital equipment at Leighton Buzzard’s Plantation Road course.
With results determined by the points scored over the last nine holes on the course, Peter Raza,won, beating Julian Heffron and Shane Bentley who all carded 46 points.
Tom Day took fourth place with 45 points, two shots clear of Nick Rathbone, Paul Ellam, Peter Burgoyne and Duncan Mutton.
More than 120 golfers took part in the event organised by retired local businessman Geoff Dimmock who administers the Plum Duffs golfing roll-up group at the club.
* Paul Ahmet won Leighton’s September medal with 40 points, a shot clear of Barry Wills,and Jon Woolford, with Barry Kent, Paul Dowdeswell, Keith Brazier and Ian Woodman heading a chasing pack with 38 points.
*A cup competition in memory of the late Leighton golf champion Kate Wright was won by Jill Nutkins with a nett 65, two shots clear of Ladies Captain Lesley Bednarek, with Joanne Cox third with a nett 70. Anne Tilbury, Norma Stevens-Hack, Rosalind Miles and Oonagh Russwell headed a chasing group with nett 71s, while Pam Stannard won the nine-hole MacMillan stableford with 21 points, two clear of Pauline Bell with Bartbara Deacon and Dorothy Jones each carding 18 points.
* Seven-handicap golfer John Brawn won Leighton’s September Midweek Medal with a nett 65, two shots clear of runner-up Richard Samuels, with Simon Light third with a nett 69. Mike J Smith, Steve Richardson and Graeme Foster headed a chasing pack with nett 70s.
* Chris Ive is the new holder of Leighton’s Croxford Cup, his 47-point haul beating Tom Davis by three points. David Woulds and Michael Birdseye each carded 41 points, with Jeff Wood and Kenneth Bailey a shot adrift.
* Seasoned campaigners Julian Heffron and Len Neal are the new holders of Leighton’s Bunny Winter greensomes trophy, winning with 48 points, two clear of Jason Lock and Declan Shannon and Peter Gadsden and Andrew Money.
