SENIORS HIT A WINNING STREAK…

Senior Leighton Buzzard golfers are winding back the years with an impressive autumn winning streak.
Last of the summer wine Captain Andy Mcdonald celebrated a 5-1 win over the Leighton club team to win the Mashie Cup…and then handed the reins to Vice Captain Paul Bishop to secure a 6-0 white-washing of Stowe, a 5-2 drubbing of South Beds and a 4-4 draw against Buckingham.
Andy and Denis Leitch, Robbie John and William Hawkes, Graham Pellow and Paul Ahmet, John Preston and Phil Rickard and Paul Bishop and Harry Adam won against the Club for whom only Colin McLeod and Paul Verney secured a win.
Vice Captain Paul and David Bishop, Keith Griffiths and Roy Virgee, Harry Adam and Martin Broadley, Paul Johnson and Derek Browning, Graham Avery and Duncan Smith and Derek Read and George Bashford secured the clean-sweep against Stowe.
Paul teamed up with Duncan Smith to get his senior servicemen off to a flying start against South Beds, with Richard Lancaster and Harry Adam, Graham Pellow and Shane Bentley, and Roy Virgee and Ian Rimmer winning and Graham Robinson and Martin Bradley halving their match.
Old rivals Buckingham secured a 4-4 draw against the Leighton legion whose winners were Peter Gadsden  and Ron Burgoyne, Graham Pellow and Tim Martin, Keith Griffiths and George Bashford, and Richard Samuels and David Bishop.
* Seven-handicap golfer John Brawn won Leighton’s September Midweek Medal with a nett 65, two shots clear of runner-up Richard Samuels, with Simon Light third with a nett 69. Mike J Smith, Steve Richardson and Graeme Foster headed a chasing pack with nett 70s.
* Chris Ive is the new holder of Leighton’s Croxford Cup, his 47-point haul beating Tom Davis by three points. David Woulds and Michael Birdseye each carded 41 points, with Jeff Wood and Kenneth Bailey a shot adrift.
* Seasoned campaigners Julian Heffron and Len Neal are the new holders of Leighton’s Bunny Winter greensomes trophy, winning with 48 points, two clear of Jason Lock and Declan Shannon and Peter Gadsden and Andrew Money.
