JUNIORS MAKE GOLF KIDS PLAY….

An eight-strong team of junior members of Leighton Buzzard golf club have shown the sport is kids’ play when it comes to winning trophies.
 
For the squad has just retained the coveted Kingston Cup, an annual competition involving teams from the junior, senior, ladies and mens sections of the Plantation Road club.
 
Junior Captain George Stephenson, George and Henry Wooster, Joshua Thorne, Sommer Chan, Olivia Olleson, Max Brunker and Edward Fenwick carded a total of 277 points to win by nine points.
 
Runners up were the men’s team of Club Captain Graham Freer, Simon Rossiter, Adrian Stephenson and Club champion son Ed, Jon Dymock, Joe Branded, Tim Mitchelll and Simon Stanway with 268 points.
 
Third were the Seniors section consisting of Captain Andy McDonald, Julian Hefron, Peter Sheridan, Duncan Smith, Chris Figg, Roy Virgee, Paul Bishop and Steve Marriot with 261 points, with Ladies Captain Lesley Bednarek and colleagues Liz Bagshaw, Olivia Campbell, Josie Sheridan, Patti Marriot, Steph Howlett, Oonagh Russell and Barbara 
Rickard footing the table with 245 points.
 
* Senior Captain Andy McDonald has celebrated back to back wins in inter-club matches.  A 5-3 victory against Chiltern Forrest with wins by Andy and William Hawkes, Chris Figg and Richard Samuels, Roy Virgee and Graham Pellow, Graham Avery and John Clavey and Harry Adam and Derek Browning was followed by a 6-2 victory over Beds & County.  Skipper McDonald and Steve Marriott, Martin Broadly and Duncan Smith,  Peter Gadsden and George Bashford, Richard Samuels and Peter Sheridan and John Clavey and Graham Freer won their matches, while Graham Robinson and Roy Virgee and Danny Nairne and Ian Summerfield halved their games.
 
* Car repair specialist Derek Shaw and wife Malgozate won Leighton’s Faulkner Family foursomes competition with a nett 65, a shot clear of Richard and Angela Samuels, with Andrew and Peter Robson in third place with a nett 68, a 
shot clear of Callum and Ryan Connew.
 
* Simon Light won Leighton’s August stableford on countback after carding 41 points with club colleague Simon Thornton. Phil Coumbe finished third with 40 points, beating Paul Ahmet and Christian Lester on countback, with Mark Reynolds, George Elford, Colin Jeffery and Abe Plummer heading a chasing pack with 39 points.
 
* Leighton golfer Lila Garrod potted her first hole-in-one using her trusty three-wood for the 150-yard ace on the Wokefield Estate course near Maidenhead.
