On a bright but blustery morning at Wright’s Meadow, Leighton Buzzard under 16’s welcomed Peterborough under 16’s.
The visitors had a huge pack and the young Buzzard’s knew they would have to stand up to the physicality.
After an early exchange where both teams tested each other out, Buzzard’s scored when quick defensive line speed put pressure on the visitors and Jacob Davies swooped on the loose ball to score a converted try and under the posts. Jacob scored a further try to leave the score 12 nil to the Buzzard’s.
From a penalty in our own half, a huge kick from Tom Maynard gave the home team a lineout well in the opposition’s 22. From a smart catch and maul, Jacob completed an excellent hat trick, bundling over from close range following a good drive from the pack.
From a Buzzard scrum in the visitors 22, number 8 Tom Maynard, picked up the ball from the base and scored a good try, to make the score 22 nil. The visitors stuck to their task and scored a very good try when the quick winger broke away and scored an excellent converted try. Not to be outdone, the young Buzzard’s deservedly had the last word, where Nathan Bottomley showed good strength and pace to score making the final score 27-7.
A very good display where all the team can be proud of their efforts. Strong tackling by both Taia Bisgrove and Jamie West at fly half and inside centre respectively, plus a solid scrum, set the foundations for a positive result.
