NEW LADIES GOLF CAPTAIN INSTALLED….

 
The new Captain of the 100-strong Ladies Section of Leighton Buzzard’s Plantation  Road golf club takes over today (Tuesday).
 
Retired bank executive Lesley Bednarek succeeds Sandra Carter and will be formally installed when she tees off at the traditional “drive in” organised by her Vice Captain Oonagh Russell.
 
Sandra’s final task after a year in office affected by covid restrictions and shutdowns, was to present trophies to club colleagues who won competitions during the year.

Other winners not present were Sommer Chan (Medal Cup); Barbara Bradley (Grannies Salver); Chris Robinson (Ladies Challenge Cup, Kate Wright Celebration Cup and Merit Award); Margaret Osborne (Ladies Seniors Handicap Cup).
 
Members of the Plantation Road club will be hoping to score birdies and eagles in competitions in the run-up to Christmas to enable them to win locally reared turkeys in for the festive season.
 
The first event – a Mixed Turkey Medal foursomes – has been won by teenagers Olivia Campbell and Ed Stephenson who finished with a nett 70, four shots clear of Bryan Bateman and Barbara Bradley and Phil and Barbara Rickard.  All three pairs qualify for a festive fowl.
