In his 20 years as a member of Leighton Buzzard golf club, mobile systems specialist Tom Fitzgerald had won nothing much to shout about.
Now 59-year-old Wing-based Tom has won two club competitions in as many months.
Tom beat 160 club colleagues to become the new holder of the club’s Wallis Cup in May…. now he’s topped the table in the Plantation Road club’s July Mid-week Medal, beating 100 other golfers by completing his round with a nett 66.
Simon Rose, Stephen Maddison, and recent Spencer Cup winner David Nero all finished with nett 68’s, a shot clear of Ian Down, with Robert Herring, Tony Russell, Graham Magill, and Stuart Goodwin in hot pursuit with heading a chasing pack.
Former Ladies Captain Beryl Wood won Leighton Ladies’ nine-hole competition with 18 points, a shot clear of Sue Preston and Michelle Plummer taking third place.
Graham Baulch, Captain of Leighton Buzzard golf club in 1996, has died last Wednesday, a day before his 78th birthday. Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
