COMPETITION GOLF BACK ON THE MENU…..

Competition golf is back on the menu at Leighton Buzzard’s Plantation Road club, with the winners of two events decided within the space of days.
Retired hairdresser Anne Tilbury was the first to win silverware, beating 42 club colleagues to top the table in the club Beck Trophy competition.
Although Anne is no stranger to winning events in the Ladies section of the club she joined 21 years ago, it was her first trophy in a competition all club members are eligible to enter.
She carded an impressive nett 65 to beat Barbara Bradley and George Elford by four shots, with Manny Barker, Colin McLeod,  and Steve Richardson heading a chasing pack with scores of nett 70.
“It was one of those rare days when most of the putts went it,” said Anne.
Two days later, Martin Flynn, Jack Jones and Alex and Mark Sandham teamed up to win the club’s Millennium Texas Scramble  after a three-way tie at the top of the table.
Their better score on the last nine holes gave them the edge over runners-up Pardeep and Theo Aurora, Peter Darwin and Raymond Steward and Robin Lawes, Justin Moss, David Womack and Ian Woodman after all three squads finished with scores of nett 51. Favourites David Banwell, David Hanley, Steven Molyneaux and Trevor Stone had to be content with fourth place with a nett 52.
Both events complied with ongoing social distancing and other rules and guidance designed to reduce the risk spread of Covid infection.
