School girl completes 200km kayak challenge
In aid of the NHS, and as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award, 15 year old Maggie Rae, who attends Cedars Upper School, set herself the sizeable challenge of paddling 200km in her racing kayak, and has raised £1,828 in the process.
Her inspiration for completing the challenge was a tribute to her Great Uncle John who sadly lost his life to Covid-19.
Beginning in February, the personal challenge saw Maggie paddling on the Grand Union Canal in freezing temperatures, snow, rain and sunshine. Undeterred by the weather, and spurred on by fellow Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club members, Maggie reached her 200km goal on Saturday during a club session.
She had set herself 3 months to complete the challenge, and amazingly, met her goal 3 weeks early. Maggie will continue to paddle until the end of April and continue to raise money for this worthwhile cause. To donate, visit:
