Retired rail industry project manager George Darbyshire collects Leighton Buzzard golf club’s Lucking Cup from Immediate Past Captain Robbie John – his first club trophy at the age of 82.
A former Captain of the Seniors Section at the Plantation Road club, George beat Steve Molyneaux in the final after wins over Ian Woodman, Terry Dell and Trevor Stone in earlier rounds of the knock-out competition.
Linslade based George took up golf after packing in squash, tennis, badminton and cricket, winning the Lucking Cup playing off a handicap of 18.
Leighton club, in common with all others, is currently in lockdown as part of government measures to halt the spread of the corona virus. Work on the club’s £600,000 new course irrigation project is on schedule for completion next month.
