PICTURE CAPTION STORY:
EIGHTEEN-year-old Brandon Sanders collects the Autumn Bowl from Leighton Buzzard golf club Immediate Past Captain Robbie John – just two years after father Lee won the same trophy.
The Milton Keynes based father and son joined Leighton’s Plantation Road club three years ago, and have not looked back since.
Six-handicapper Lee won the Autumn Bowl in his first year at Leighton and got pipped in the final Peter Taylor Scratch competition, while Brandon has improved his game considerably, reducing his handicap from nine to three and securing a place with the Bedfordshire County team.
Says Lee, who manages a vehicle specialist cleaning company: “We just love playing at Leighton; the course is a real challenge and there’s a great atmosphere there.”
The Leighton club, in common with all others, is currently in lockdown as part of government measures to half the spread of the corona virus. Work on the club’s £600,000 new course irrigation project is on schedule for completion next month.
