NEIL TOPS THE TABLE TWICE IN FOUR DAYS….
Builder Neil Lamming has topped the table in two competitions within the space of four days at Leighton Buzzard’s Plantation Road golf club.
Neil, 56, who only took up golf six years ago, teamed up with Izzy Ramdeen to win the Captain’s Cup weekend qualifier with an amazing 50 points…..and then personally carded a nett 66 to win last Wednesday’s March Midweek Medal, beating Andrew Reinke by a shot.
It’s the first time since joining the Leighton club four years ago that Neil has won a competition, having finished runner-up in two others – the Dennis Jordan foursomes with Steve Hammond and the Rosebery trophy with regular playing partner Izzy.
“My days of finishing as a bridesmaid are over,” quipped Neil, whose latest success resulted in his 12-handicap being reduced by a shot.
Other leading scorers in the Midweek Medal were: 68 – Jamie Tyas, Brandon Sanders; 70 – Lee Harnett, Stephen Schmidt, Gareth Mccready, Lee Sanders; 71 – Robbie John; 72 – Will Sampson, Ashley Garner.
Neil and Izzy now join Grant Tibbett and George Elford, Joe Butlin and Christian Lester, Tim Mitchell and Nick Tingey, Peter Sheridan and Simon Thornton, Dharm Naveen Diwaker and Steven Tyas, Darren Valentine and Steve Richardson, Phil Coumbe and John Ager, Alan Smith and John McSweeney and John Tarbox and Graham Hazell in the April 4 Cup final shoot-out, with two other qualifying finalists yet to be determined.
Leighton ladies were out of luck on their St Patrick’s Day clash with club Seniors for the Barney Hallam trophy, winning just one of the 15 matches. But that single success was a scalp well worth having, Ladies Captain Christine Rimmer and her Vice Captain Sandra Carter beating their respective husbands, Seniors skipper Ian and club President Brian, by two holes.
Barbara Rickard and Beryl Wood halved their match against Jeff Bell and Mike Turnock; Stephanie Howlett and Lila Garrod shared the spoils in their match with Harry Adam and Geoff Allatt, and Margaret Osborne and Ann Grey tied with Simon Warrington and Chris Chehade.
But the Seniors strolled home with 11 wins, leaving Ladies Captain Christine to present the Barney Hallam trophy to the husband she beat in the opening match.
