In the four years since he joined Leighton Buzzard golf club, David Womack has come close to winning, but never quite made it.
Now the 35-year-old engineering company equipment purchaser has landed his first competition win, topping the table in the March stableford, winning by the narrowest of margins.
David was one of three players to finish with 40 points, but his 21 points on the back nine holes earned him top spot, with Chris Yirrell runner-up and Daniel Hill finishing third. David had two shots cut from his 19 handicap while Chris and Daniel both were cut by one shot to 15 and 19 respectively.
Other leading scorers were: 38pts – Colin Beesley, Brandon Sanders, Gary Hart, Jonathan Dunning; 36pts – Darren Alexander, Will Sampson, Craig Custance, Christian Lester.
Grant Tibbett and George Elford are the latest qualifiers for Leighton’s Captain’s Cup final, carding 46 points to beat Izzy Ramdeen and Andrew Reinke on countback.
Grant and George now join Joe Butlin and Christian Lester, Tim Mitchell and Nick Tingey, Peter Sheridan and Simon Thornton, Dharm Naveen Diwaker and Steven Tyas, Darren Valentine and Steve Richardson, Phil Coumbe and John Ager, Alan Smith and John McSweeney and John Tarbox and Graham Hazell in the April 4 Cup final shoot-out. Other qualifying rounds have yet to be played.
