There’s no better way of starting a new golfing season than the way you finished the last.
And for former RAF communications technician Phil Coumbe, that means winning prizes.
The 46-year-old, now a technical team leader with Virgin Media, won three last year as a member of Leighton Buzzard golf club of which he has been a member for nine years. He won the Wallis Cup and was also a four-times prize winner with the Sandhouse Society, one of which was the coveted Buchanan Trophy.
And he’s started 2020 in fine form, already qualifying for the Leighton Captain’s Cup final to be played on April 4, teaming up with John Ager to card a 47 point haul.
Dharm Naveen Diwaker and Steven Tyas won the latest Captains Cup qualifier, scoring 47 points to beat Trevor Mcaleese and Stuart Mills by two shots. They now join Phil and John, John Tarbox and Graham Hazell, Alan Smith and John McSweeney, and Darren Valentine and Steve Richardson, and other weekend winners, in the April 4 final shoot-out.
