A full Buzzard Colts squad hosted Stockwood Park at Wright’s Meadow for the semi-final of the Bedfordshire cup and opened brightly, immediately putting the visitors on the spot. Ethan Rogers made the breakthrough and fed Ethan Hayter to score. The forwards rucked well and after successive penalties, Matty Ross powered over to score.
Stockwood forwards fought back for their own only try of the first half, before Buzzard forwards showed their attacking skills. Julian Gallie took a quick penalty, was stopped on the line and Ross, in support, drove over for his second try. Captain Harry Nossiter pounced on the ball at a Stockwood lineout and found a gap to touchdown.
There was then a period of indiscipline by Buzzards, leading to a run of penalties, lost ground and eventually a yellow card for Albert Read. This continued into the second half and Stockwood backs outflanked the defense and a further score from a penalty. But another loose ball by the visitors was kicked on by Read who out-paced the defense to touch down under the posts.
Buzzards then went on the rampage against a tiring Stockwood side, the forwards drove forward and Ross touched down for his hat-trick. An excellent scrum led to Thomas Charter showing his strength to power over the line. Read kicked well, converting 3 tries.
Stockwood scored a late consolation try from an interception but Buzzards ran out 41 – 26 winners and look forward to the final against Bedford Blues.
