Most members of Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club do their paddling locally and on flat water. Lydia Oxtoby however specialises in Wild Water Racing on fast moving water and travels sometimes a long way to races. Partly this is due to being part of the Great Britain team. However her latest trip is further than most.
Lydia is part of the GB team competing in the Wild Water Racing World Cup round in Liukuzhen China. This will be running over the 14 and 15 December. However she has already been racing in an additional open race in Panzhihua, Sichuan. This was on the River Salween which is very wide and fast flowing but a lot flatter than many races. In the sprint race Lydia had a good result coming 6th behind some other top European paddlers including teammate Hannah Brown who won.
Now it is on to Nu Jiang for the World Cup races which will be followed by a special demonstration race on the impressive Tiger’s Leap rapids.
