LADIES PROGRESS IN MAIL COMPETITION….

Two ladies have won the right to represent Leighton Buzzard golf club in the regional finals of a national competition.
 
Niki Clarke and Vicki Pratt will represent the Plantation Road club in the Daily Mail foursomes and are waiting to hear who their opponents will be.
 
They topped the table in the Leighton qualifier, winning by the narrowest of margins. They carded 39 points along with Judi Malpass and Oonagh Russell – and won on countback over the last nine holes.
 
Angela Samuels and Norma Stevens-Hack took third place, also on countback, pipping Stephanie Howlett and Jenny Stafford after both pairs scored 34 points.
 
Colin Ball won Leighton’s September Midweek medal with a nett 67, a shot clear of Brandon Sanders, with Joshua Rowles taking third place ahead of John Smith after both finished with nett 69s.  Heading the chasing pack were: 70 – Ron Burgoyne Russell Rowles, Joe Berry, Ian Woodman; 71 – Peter Finch, Morley Smith, Simon Enright, Geoff Dimmock, Terry Dell, Peter Rutt.
 
Three teams tied for top spot in Leighton’s Bunny Winter Trophy final, with Judith Ammon and Graham Richmond winning on countback from Daniel Lamont and Oliver Mortimer and Michael Cox and Bill Milton after all finished with 44 points.  Other top finishers were:  43pts – Kent Waterman and Ian Woodman, Steve Deverill and Daniel Hill, Nigel Barnes and Tim Dawson; 42pts – Billy O’Neill and Will Sampson, Robin Lawes and David Womack.
 
Leighton Seniors topsy-turvey season continues, with victory over the Club to retain the coveted Mashie Trophy being followed 24 hours later by a defeat against Buckingham.
 
Seniors skipper Peter Myrants and George Darbyshire beat club Captain Robbie John and President Brian Carter by one hole in the opener with Nigel Chapman and Will Sampson adding a second victory over John Preston and David Carrington before Christopher Figg and David Roberts halved their match with Jon Dymock and Christopher Read.  Harry Adam and Graham Pellow secured a comfortable win over Nick Tingey and Steve Light before the Club clocked its first success with Chris Ive and Andy Shaw beating Nigel Barnes and Stephen King by three holes. Ian Rimmer sank a lengthy putt on the last hole to secure victory with veteran Geoff Allatt over club Vice Captain Simon Rossiter and Paul Bishop.
 
But after a night of celebrations, the Seniors lost 5-3 against Buckingham, with George Bashford and David Roberts, Keith Griffiths and Martin Flynn and Harry Adam and Christopher Figg carding Leighton wins.
 
The Leighton club team lost 4-1 at Chiltern Forest with Keith Edmunds and Daniel Hill getting the only win with Nick Tingey and Simon Rossiter halving their game, but drew 3-3 with Ellesborough.  Skipper Robbie John and Keith Edmunds, Will Sampson and Jon Dymock and Mike Smith and Ian Rimmer won for Leighton.
