EMBURY PIPPED FOR TROPHY TREBLE…
Carpenter Dave Embury is facing a challenging season on the golf course after winning two trophies and being pipped for a third at Leighton Buzzard’s Plantation Road club.
The 45-year-old chippie has been playing the sport for a decade, joining the Leighton club five years ago from Aspley Guise, before he hit the trophy trail.
A 21-handicap golfer, David teamed up with 53-year-old Audi accredited customer care advisor Roger Hughes to beat Steve Foster and Steven Molyneaux in the final of the Captain’s Cup, collecting the trophy from Leighton’s Immediate Past Captain Jeremy Taylor, who himself won the club’s Wallis Cup last year.
David topped the table in the 50th Anniversary trophy competition with a 40 point haul, beating Dharm Naveen Diwaker by five points…only for Dharm to get his revenge in the final of the Lucking Cup, nailing runner-up David’s hopes of a trophy hat-trick.
Says David: “I’ve got my work cut out this season, but whatever the outcome, there’s a great atmosphere at Leighton and it’s a delight to play.”
Leighton-born Roger, a prolific goalscorer with Eaton Bray before joining the Leighton club three years ago, plays off a handicap of 19 and won the popular Plum Duffs charity day last September with a 44 point haul, helping raise £5,000 for charity.
“Winning your first club trophy is always memorable….I just hope there’s more to come,” says Roger.
Steve Boud and Barry Kent have qualified for the final of Leighton’s Captains’ Cup, beating David Hanley and Trevor Stone with 24 points on the back nine after both pairs had carded 45 points, one clear of Justin Moss and Kent Waterman.
Lila Garrod won Leighton Ladies five clubs and a putter competition with an impressive 37 points, three clear of Judy Ammon.
