‘SERVICE TO SPORT’ AWARD
 FOR ROB THE BUILDER…
Rob receives his ’Service to Sport’ award from Town Mayor Cllr Clive Palmer.

A Leighton Buzzard man who took his son for athletics training and stayed coaching and encouraging others for 30 years has been awarded the town’s top sports award.
The voluntary work of builder Rob Bennett has been recognised by the Leighton-Linslade Sports Council who nominated him for their annual ‘Service to Sport’ award.
Congratulating 66-year-old Northall-based Rob when presenting him with the award at the White House, Town Mayor Councillor Clive Palmer said it was the voluntary work of enthusiasts like Rob, who gave up much of their spare time to help others get the most out of sport, who were the life-blood of amateur sport in the community.
Rob’s son Dean developed into being a very competent athlete after joining Leighton Buzzard Athletic Club, County and club events while dad took up coaching and helped the junior and senior sections of the club of which he is now an honourary Life Member.
Before stepping down, Rob put together a new coaching team at the Athletics club while Dean took up football and is currently goalkeeper with the AC Delco and Renault Dodge teams.

Rob was a member of the Leighton-Linslade Sports Council for 16 years and treasurer for 14 years, a post he held until his recent ‘retirement’.

“Being recognised for the award was a great honour and one of which I am very proud,” said Rob.
